How we support local primary schools

Local primary schools have been part of the Trust’s work from the very beginning. We support them through our Primary School Rotation — a programme that shares funding across the schools of the broader Hauraki Plains.

How the rotation works

Each eligible school receives funding once every four years, on a rotating basis, with the amount scaling to the size of the school — larger schools receive a little more. Each year the Trust contributes around $10,000 in total, shared across the schools that are due for funding that year.

Eligible schools currently include Kerepehi, Kaihere, Kaiaua, Kopuarahi, Mangatangi, Netherton, Ngatea, Turua and Waitakaruru.

What the funding is for

The rotation is designed for projects that:

• aren’t usually covered by government funding,
• benefit a broad cross-section of students rather than just a few, and
• ideally deliver lasting value rather than a one-off benefit.

Past projects we’ve been proud to support include an all-weather outdoor learning area, and bringing in a play therapist to support students across a school.

How it works for schools

Each year the Trust confirms which schools are in the funding round and lets their principals know. From there, the school puts forward a short Proposed Use of Funds outlining what the money will go towards. Once it’s approved and paid, the school simply confirms how the funds were used.
